programs like medicaid. my goal is not to chase a balanced budget just for the sake of balance. >> let's not do that. our commander-in-chief doesn't think we need a balanced budget, and his democratic cohorts in the senate appear to agree with him. senator patty murray, the democratic chair of the senate budget committee, finally released their liberal budget plan, and in the next ten years in their budget government spending would increase by over $2 trillion. that's a 58% increase, but that's not all. the republicans on the senate budget committee also crunched the numbers and under the democrats' plan they would race taxes by $1.5 trillion. they just raised taxes. why would anyone think this budget is a good idea. maybe somebody who does is the former chair of the president's council on american advisors. from the university offing

>> what is important to recognize is that we've already cut $2.7 trillion out of the deficit. if the sequester stays in, you have over 3-1/2 trillion of deficit reduction already. so we don't have an immediate crisis in terms of debt. for the next ten years it's in a sustainable place. >> the problem is that the way bush has done it over the last eight years, is to take out a credit card from the bank of china in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion for the first 42 presidents, number 43 add ed $4 trillion by his lonesome. so we now have over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back. $30,000 for every man, woman, and child. that's irresponsible. that's unpatriotic.

crisis is coming to america. this is not a question of if. it's a question of when. what is a debt crisis? it means we can't keep living beyond our means. it means we can't keep borrowing from our children's future. this -- our generation of americans, we're being selfish, we're taking from the next generation their future. we have a moral obligation to fix that. and if we have a debt crisis, those who get hurt the first and the worst are the ones who need government most, our seniors, the poor, the people living on the safety net. >> when he starts talking about the poor, democratic numbers shocked me, and the idea this is a moral issue, not just an economic issue. paul ryan is the best at this because he understands the details behind the budget and puts a personal face to it, which makes it incredible.
